| Astromers from the Harvard - Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics using the STIS instrument onboard the Hubble Space Telescope have whilst observing Betelgeuse (a super giant star in Orion) detected hot gas escape its atmosphere at much larger distances than they have before. The distance that they have observed this hot gas is 50 times the visible radius and this is 5 times the orbit of Neptune. The hot gas is contained within the Chromosphere of the star, this is the region between the photosphere and the corona. The photosphere itself is of a similar orbit to that of Jupiter's orbit around the Sun!
