First I use the word Mouses and not mice since it is a new word and so does not require the old convention. Yesterday I tidied up my cupboard and in there was basically a bunch of crap computer parts, lots that I will never use again and some which don't even work. So I got rid of the crap and kept the good stuff or have put it in to use for the Linux box that me and Matt are intending to use to control Astrosoc's Grubb Telescope. I also found some old mouses, and thought I would post a picture and do a quick comparison.
Comparison of these: Same basic design not much has changed the idea of buttons on the top. The way the motion is detected however has changed significantly from the annoying balls, which need constant cleaning, to the slick optical version (which uses doppler shift to be very accurate). Also a thing that has been developed is the wheel button, I don't know where I would be without one, when I use a mouse without one I just can not cope! (apart from on my laptop when I just use the scroll keys without thinking). Now that is really the only major changes in these designs, well it must be a good design then as it seems to do the job well. Many other contenders have come along such as track balls but they have all lost, thank god for that cause some of the designs are dire. Oh and there are also some funny mouses out there, including this Hamburger one I came across at some point, I didn't buy it but I found it - quite funny - how can you use this! |
