Earthshine, now this is a cool effect to see and something that is quite difficult to photograph - well so I am told it is. I came across [this] image earlier today and I though it was worth a mention. You can clearly see the night side of the moon being illuminated by reflected light from the Earth. Oh and so you know what I mean by Earthshine: Earthshine is reflected Earthlight visible on the Moon's night side. It is often called "ashen glow". Anyway for more, like always, check out [Wiki]. I actually think that this would make the basis of a very cool undergraduate observing program, as you could determine the albedo (reflectivity) of the Earth for starters.
