Firefox's Blake Ross's Agenda - annihilate Bill Gates

Take a look at the image of the first slide... [nwsoruce.com] I wish I was there for that. If you are lazy this is what it says:

Project Goals

*Annihilate Bill Gates and feast on the bloody remains of his shattered empire

*Liberate the world from the encumberring bondage of prop*ty software

Anyway the rest of the article isn't the most interesting but that says it all. lol. T

The real firefox??

Take a look at [thingsthatmakeyougoaahh.com]. They have a nice cute animal on that page and yes it does look like a firefox! I do wonder if it isn't just a dog with some red painted on it... eitherway it looks cute!

Dr Who really is science fiction...

Last week in Dr Who they featured the completed olympic stadium At the time I thought it was a funny concept to see it finished!..... as if that would actually have been completed!

Bird poo on shuttle

It appear that we aren't the only people to get bird's pooping on our equipment (we being the UoB AS, see [here] for more) as NASA have also found evidence that pigeons have pooped on the space shuttle, lol... take a look at [spaceflightnow.com] for more.

Hubble Reveals Two Dust Disks Around Nearby Star Beta Pictoris

"This Hubble Space Telescope view of Beta Pictoris clearly shows a primary dust disk and a much fainter secondary dust disk." Interesting stuff, possible place for planets to develop? Maybe. Take a look at the full STScI article [here]

Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs

Older hardware to use newer operating systems, is this M$'s way out of supporting old operating systems... and make some more money... ? Take a look at [Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs]

1,000th entry!!

Woohoo! who would have thought that I would have managed to keep up my rantings on here to 1,000 entries. I am proud and shocked at the amount of time that I have sat in front of a computer boring people who read this! Anyway, yay! I am off to Canada tomorrow so expect a post whilst I am away.... but maybe I will just stay away from computers!

MSN and Yahoo can talk to each other

Looks like MSN and yahoo are forming some sort of evil alliance to fight against the good forces of Google.... well maybe not quite that dramatic but it does look as if that must be the reason. Both must be terrified of Google since it now has so many cool services all integrated... if you wanna know a lot more take a look: [here]

Police spoof magazine...

How to stop people getting wrecklessly drunk? Sounds like some sort of moral education lesson that you have at school (I think they used to call it PSME when I was at school). Eitherway it was boring and the whole point was to scare you into thinking something, which was done by the masses in some cases, was wrong and we shouldn't fall into that trap. Having a drink, and getting drunk occasionally isn't gonna kill you now is it? Well I guess it could, but if you are somewhat sensible and have decent mates it shouldn't. Anyway the police have come up with what could possible be the most effective way of giving people a shock. Tell them what happens, in a bit more of a real context. It is true people do fall over in a heap when they are drunk... some more often than other. In this spoof magazine they tell people to be "wearing nice pants" so when they fall over it is acceptable or something like that. Anyway I think the idea of being brutal in a joking context might work, well... ummm. Take a look at the [the guardian] for a much longer article on this and the appropriate links.... eitherway good on the police for showing ingenuity.

Welcome to Google Spreadsheets

I wonder how long it will take for google to have all the desktop packages available via their site... now you can do spreadsheets... give it a go [here]

Rainbows and Lightning, wow!

"Lightning often occurs during heavy storms while rainbows are generally formed after the rain has stopped, making an appearance of both simultaneously relatively rare. " Sounds about right, but I would expect it to happen on occasions, probably more often that you would expect since you could have a rainbow close by after the thunderstorm with that continuing on further away.. anyway, some wonderful photos can be found on [dailymail.co.uk]

qastrocam - astrophotography in linux..

After a linux solution to your astronomical imaging? Then take a look at [qastrocam]. I have yet to try it but expect I will be using it in the near future. I have heard lots of good things about it though. Oh the website is in French but there is a nice babel fish translation tool at the top...

God works in mysterious ways!

There was a man who worked for the Post Office... whose job it was to
process all the mail that had illegible addresses .One day, a letter
came
addressed in a shaky handwriting to God. He thought he should open it to
see what it was about.
The letter read:

Dear God,
I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday
someone stole my purse. It had £100 in it, which was all the money I had
until my next pension check. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited
two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to
buy food with. I have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope.
Can
you please help me? Sincerely, Edna

The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other
workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few
dollars. By the time he made the rounds,he had collected £96, which they
put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day,all the
workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be
able
to share with her friends.

Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the
old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was
opened.

It read:

Dear God,
How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your
gift of love I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had
a
very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift.
By the way, there was £4 missing. It must have been those thieving
buggers
at the Post Office.
Sincerely, Edna

To Canada...

Well I'm off... time to go... here comes Canada. Time for a nice break.

July 17, 2006

Hello from Toronto!

Hello to you all from Canada(!), thats right the smell might have finally gone away now that I am a couple of thousand miles away!

Toronto seems like a really nice city, though it does feel much more american than I would have expected.. heck its damn close.

It's hot, damn hot. Between 41 - 48 centigrade here, supposidely. It does feel like it. It feels like my blood is going to boil, thank god for the underground air conditioned city!

We went on a nice air conditioned bus tour of the city and this had some great highlights, and we walked back to the city hall just... but it is too hot to be walking around outside too much.

Anyway I think my dad is probably being bored with me being a geek and writing messages whilst on holiday.... and its probably time we had a pint! We are off to diner at the CN tower tonight (which is the tallest structure in the world, the Petronas towers being the tallest building). Lots of fun...

tomorrow I should cool down with the masses of water at Niagra... woo hoo...

Back from Canada

I got back from Canada, exhausted and thrilled, earlier today. For now all I will say is I had a great time... time to relax.. and that doesn't include a computer screen (for once!).

Zidane flash animation

Guess what it does.... [zidane]

Mac vs. PC videos...

After the mac put out a bunch of cool vids advertising their product there have been a bunch of home made versions appear (by a number I mean a lot). Anyway on youtube you will find loads. Here are a couple I really like... the original mac one [pc virus] and there is always the one that includes linux [but we aren't all geeks]. Oh, and sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words - [microsofts response]

Sonic does a Zidane...

Ok this is a small (and I dont know who created it so I can't give credit) but a very funny little annimation of how Zidane should have done it.. and look at the Italian turn into a cute animal:

If this is not a reason to move over to Firefox then I can't think of one... [http://www.ie7.com/]

WordPod - put books on your iPod

I am going on a long trip to India and don't really want to carry a bunch of books, and heck I can get them free from [Project Gutenberg] so I though I would use my iPod's notes feature... it would actually be quite annoying to do this but there is a nice tool already designed to do the job [WordPod].. works well (is free!) and allows me to do just what I want, read! :-)

A leaf from another continent

Well I couldn't bring back flowers for my Lizzie so I grabed a leaf at a sugar shak (where they make maple syrup... yummy) whilst I was in Canada.. oh and here it is (yay, my first post of pics from Canada!):

Microsoft to charge for Office betas

Microsoft is to start charging $1.50 for beta versions of Office 2007. From 2 August anyone wanting to download the software will have to pay the small fee. So if you want it free, do it now! :-) I would probably recommend going for the free Open Office but heck if it is free doesn't hurt to give it a go... get it [here]

Listen to: Three Days Grace...

I recently came across Three Days Grace and they are a damn good rock band, sort of remind me a bit of Alkaline Trio, but not hugely.. maybe more like 30 seconds from mars, eitherway they are good to listen to and aren't overly "shouty" something that can just annoy me. Any take a look at their website, with online music, [threedaysgrace.com]

Top of the Pops goes

Well bye bye to Top of the Pops and as the last number one came on I remembered why I don't ever watch it. It is full of teeny crap, not music I would normally ever considered listening to. Over the last few years I think I have turned into it on 3 occasions. I think one was for Maximo Park (I'm not convinced about that but...), the other was to see the Crimea (a wicked band... who I have ranted on about before I am sure..) and of course to see that very special and long Greenday perfomance of Jesus of Suburbia (that was special!). Last night 4 million people watched it ([so the BBC says]).
