"Lightning often occurs during heavy storms while rainbows are generally formed after the rain has stopped, making an appearance of both simultaneously relatively rare. " Sounds about right, but I would expect it to happen on occasions, probably more often that you would expect since you could have a rainbow close by after the thunderstorm with that continuing on further away.. anyway, some wonderful photos can be found on [dailymail.co.uk]
