New Horizons encounters Jupiter

A wonderful picture taken by the New Horizons spacecraft has been released, not of its final target but of the planet Jupiter and its tiny moon Io (though the images were taken last Feb as it passed by the planet on its way to Pluto).

Its just absolutely breathtaking.

The image is composed of Jupiter captured in three bands of infra-red light making the Great Red Spot look white. Io is digitally superposed in natural colour.
