Cinema again!

Guess what I saw again today? Starsky and Hutch! This is a great film, I'm glad I went again.

Ticket

Me and my mates Geordie and Matt went. We had dinner beforehand in the Figure of Eight on Broad St. It was great. A nice end to a frustrating morning of revision and then not being able to get the paint off the Grubb.

The Manchurian Candidate

The Manchurian Candidate was an excellent film. I saw the trailer a while back now and heard about its release in the states and was very eager to see it. I went to watch it yesterday. I would highly recommend seeing it though I feel it might not have the same impact as it could have had around the USA Presidential election.

Team America World Police

It just came out in the UK. What a film! I don't think I have laughed so much in a long time. It was absolutely excellent. I am sure people could find this offensive at moments. The crucial thing is to remember that they are taking the piss of the American attitude to the rest of the world. It is definitely Thunderbirds with attitude. The music from this film will be in my head for weeks to come. Go see it - well worth the £3 I have to pay s a student.

Creep, an odd film

I went to see Creep tonight at the AMC by Five Ways. The film itself I would call entertaining but at times it was comical. Overall the film wasn't that scary it had its moments. At its worse it was just sickening and disgusting. I am not sure if I would recommend this one something to pay to watch. Oh if you do see it then one of the characters will remind you of someone after his precious.

One student for Hostage please

Now that sounded strange when I said that last night at the cinema. Have you guessed what we went to see? Yep it was Bruce Willis' latest adventure as a cop - Hostage. It was very entertaining and good to watch. It had a very Max Payne kinda feel to it from the start (for those of you who don't know Max Payne is a computer game). It was well worth the £3.

The Amityville Horror

Last night I went to see The Amityville Horror. It wasn't a bad film, at times it was actually quite good and if you remove the cliched feel that you get from this then it is actually quite good. The important thing to remember is that it is a remake of a 1970s horror film. I was well entertained. It is supposedly based on a true story. Being interested I looked at a few websites and it is quite an interesting story even though some of the more recent stuff appears to be of legal wranglings! The first site I came across was http://www.amityvillemurders.net/ which I feel is trying to sell you a book more than present information but it isn't a bad site and has some interesting stuff on it. I then came across http://www.amityvillehorrortruth.com/ which has loads of interesting stuff on it, though at times a bit imaginative it is still very interesting. Oh and there is even an interview on there with George Lutz - who lived in the house and the stories are based around. As for the film take a look at: http://www.amityvillehorrormovie.com/

Don't Panic....

Yesterday I went to see Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (we had to run due to central trains, argh!), a film I have been eagerly awaiting since I found out it was in production. It was good. It has been a while since I read the books and so couldn't quite remember if they had things right. It does seem that they have added stuff to it and removed some stuff. I won't say what, just in case anyone who reads this wants to watch it. My favourite scene involved wool and the Infinite Improbability Drive :-) - for those of you who don't remember what this is "The Infinite Improbability Drive is a wonderful new method of crossing vast intersteller distances in a mere nothing of a second without all that tedious mucking about in hyperspace." The film's official website can be found at: http://hitchhikers.movies.go.com/ - this flash heavy!

One final comment it was incredible - even worse than I thought it would be. But that's only Marvin's opinion.

Kingdom of Heaven

I went to see Kingdom of Heaven yesterday. This is a film about the crusades staring Orlando Bloom. It was quite good and had some good battle scenes with some impressive graphics. It did seem to miss something though, not entirely sure what but there was something missing. It is a Ridley Scott film and so I was expecting something good and I wasn't that disappointed. It was very enjoyable to watch and quite entertaining. If you like castles and medieval battles then this is one to watch. If you don't then maybe watching if for the personal side might be good. Either way there was something not quite right. Oh I shall also avoid going into a rant about the idiots who came in during the trailers and stood there looking lost.. right in my way. Muppets.

Star Wars III

WOW! That's about all I can say. We went to see it on Thursday and I was very pleased. It made up for the first one! I won't say more as Star Wars speaks for itself. This is definitely one that probably is best watched in the cinema. There was even to big cheers at the start, can't ask for more than that. Oh it also appears that Red Bull racing in Formula 1 have been taken over with the force for an advertising campaign this weekend - lets hope the force is with them. Sin City

At the weekend I went to see Sin City, a film I have been waiting to see for a while now. It was very good. They made the film look like a comic book strip by using lots of bright colours and if they hadn't it would have been very gruesome at times. I guess it could be considered quite gruesome even with the cartoon style masking it. I very much enjoyed it - very entertaining. Oh and as I was expecting it reminded me heavily of Max Payne. It is a film I wouldn't mind seeing again. Oh and this is not to be confused with the adult website (sincity.com) - which is where I went when I was looking for a trailer. Lets just say the trailer was a bit different to what I was expecting! :-)

The Descent

I saw this film earlier today - it was interesting. Essentially a bunch of attractive women go down into a cave and bad stuff happens. As always I won't go into more detail as it would spoil the film. Not one for anyone who can't take a bit of gore. It is fairly interesting and quite entertaining though if you are going to see a film at the moment I would recommend War of the Worlds, which was quite good.

Fantastic Four

I went to see this today, I hadn't been impressed with the trailers but we all decided it would be entertaining. I would say it was, though it wasn't fantastic I know it wasn't ever gonna be scientifically understandable, but it really annoys me when they use terms incorrectly. The guy heated up to 4000K and the scientist said "that's as hot as a supernova"...umm yeah right. Its as hot as the chromosphere of the Sun and the interior is in the millions of K. Argh. Come on graphite's melting point is about 3948 K. Apart from that and some other guy mentioning that the machine didn't have enough critical mass (are they just putting scientific terms in at random here?) it was good. It was fun, humorous and overall enjoyable - just gotta forget any science you know... hard to do that when you are about to start a PhD!

Four Brothers

I went to see the Four Brothers the other day. My friend Kat said "I hear its a blokes film", obviously I denied this and at first I almost convinced myself that it wasn't. Well that's when the guns came out. It is a good film and its not a typical "lets kick ass and shoot up the place film". It has a feeling to it and a reason behind the violence, well maybe. The overall reason why is a little vague in a sense but obvious in others - if that makes sense. The reason behind the why is a little daft but heck it's a good film. I enjoyed it, though not as much as I though I would have. Overall was this a blokes film? I'd probably agree it was, though not a typical one. Oh and as Kat said I do hope that Detroit isn't really like how it is perceived in films. If it is then I do feel sorry for anyone who lives in the bad parts, though I do guess that you could take anywhere and you will find somewhere "dodgy". Gosh, now I am sounding like a middle class moron - honest I'm far from that.

Star Wreck

I just came across what looks like a good scifi parody, [Star Wreck]. Guess what the idea is behind it. It is actually a full movie. I'm currently downloading it and it is about 500mb but there is a smaller version available. Essentially it looks like a star trek fan fiction film. So if you into that sort of thing your bound to enjoy it - I'll say if I don't! :-)

Worth a watch: The Longest Yard

The Longest Yard is another funny that star Adam Sandler but this time with Chris Rock along it makes even funnier. I know lots of people who have no time for Adam Sandler but if you are after some nice light entertainment then this is definetly worth a watch. Ok it has the same sort of story line the underdog against the big bully and so isn't going to win any awards for being a soul searching film but it will make you laugh. Its about to be released on DVD and probably already available at the local blockbusters or other rental place. I personally saw it in the cinema during my summer holidays and was much better than I though it would be. This is actually a remake of the 1974 classic that starred Burt Reynolds who actually gets a part in this version. Oh and there are no "show me your boobies" references, damn(!).

My First Movie: Diggin' For Gold

Heck, here we go, obviously not a box office smash but you never know now do ya! Oh and its only 48seconds long. I wonder if that will stop is progress. It is my first attempt at writing a script in the game "The Movies" which is well worth a play. Anyway its nothing special but something made me wanna post it. It does show you quite how good this game is!! Now to record my own sound track and heck we could have a film done in no time! :-) Anyway if you wanna download it and have a laugh at my pityfull attempt do it [here, 827kb]

Forget Silent Hill, welcome to Centralia

I went to see [Silent Hill] last night, it was damn good, though very distrubing. I also couldn't believe it was only a 15 as some of the scenes were very (and I do mean very) graphic! It was not hugely scary, in fact I was a little disapointed on that asepct, but in every other way it was a really good film. Full of action, great creatures that are played by actors. I hear that hardly any cgi was used, if any with the odd creatures... which is cool.

Anyway I mentioned Centralia, Pennsylvania. Now this is where a lot of the film inspiration (since Silent Hill was a game long before a film) comes from. It is almost a ghost town in the US where a huge underground fire burning. This sounds very similar to the film and is really quite odd. I suggest you take a look at [offroaders.com] which has some really interesting stuff and pics and, oh, of course there is always [wiki]

Mission Impossible 3

Worth watching? Probably yes, it is entertaining. Would I watch it again? nope. It is a good film but it also goes on way too long.. I won't say more and spoil it. Some good entertainment but drags on too long.

The Da Vinci Code Film

I think the first words that came to mind whilst seeing this was cool. The film was pretty good and had some rather artistic effects that worked well. I personally haven't read the da vinci code and have no real intension to do so. Taking it as just a film and not comparing this to how good the book is or whatever I have to say that the film was rather enjoyable. I am sure there will be some people out there who watched it going "no no no no, thats not how it goes in the book". As a film it was good, I was well entertained! :-) [Watch it].

The Family Man

I rented this last night and wasn't so convinced by the cover... it looks like a typical Nicolas Cage cover! I do normally like his films so this didn't really put me off though I was a bit concerned it would just be him being tight cast to make some money.. oh and here are a few covers..

lord

Anyway back to the family man... it was actually a pretty good film. It was a little bit of a girly film, in that there was only 1 gun during the whole film. Without letting too much out of the bag. Guy makes a decision, guy becomes rich but no personal life. Guy gets glimpse of what life would have been like if he made the decision another way. Some funny moments and quite heart warming.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

When my girlfirend told me the film was going to be about a guy who kills people to find the best perfume I was thinking New York guns and chasses. Then we sit down in the cinema and she goes "you know this is a period drama, right?" .... my response "WHAT" which she followed with "and that its set in France"... well lets just say I was not happy, though I had popcorn and minstrels so I was happy!

Anyway the film wasn't bad, I dont actually mind period films, not that lovey uped drama crap, but stuff with battles. This film was plain and simply odd and actually rather interesting. It wasn't particularly grumesome or anything but the fish market got my stomach going...

The speil for the film is:

"Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born in the stench of eighteenth century Paris, develops a superior olfactory sense, which he uses to create the world's finest perfumes. His work, however, takes a dark turn as he tries to preserve scents in the search for the ultimate perfume."

I would actually recommend it as an interesting and indeed entertaining watch but I can't put my finger on it, there was something odd about it

In the Shadow of the Moon

Last night we went to see "In the Shadow of the Moon". This is documentary follows the American side of the space race and has some fantastic images and video of the early space age. It also has interviews from many of the Apollo astronauts which was worth seeing alone. It was a nicely put together visualisation of a story most of us know pretty well. If you want to see a good movie at the moment and not have it dumbed down or full of inaccuracies then go watch this. More info at [www.intheshadowofthemoon.com]

I knew the day would come.. and it finally has! Zombie Strippers! I love the plot: As a secret virus capable of turning people into zombies is released into a Nebraska strip club, the club strippers struggle whether to accept the trendy transformation. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif It is going to be one of those films I can tell. Oh and it even has a porn star in it! Catch the trailer below (or at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVkQCDfIe38)
